Eitzen to Update Electric Meters

March 18, 2024 by Charlene Corson Selbee

Eitzen City Council approved a quote from MiEnergy for electronic electric meters at the March 12 city council meeting.

Maintenance Supervisor Darryl Meyer explained that Tri-County will be able to read everything right from their office. Since the installers are currently in town, Meyer expects that the electric meters will be installed within the next month or the following month at the latest. He also confirmed that the installers will not have to go into the homes to replace the meters, and that the electricity will be turned off for only two to three minutes while the meters are installed. They will GPS every house so Tri-County will know who has a power outage and the exact location of the power outage. Mayor Jeff Adamson said, “There will be a lot of happy people in town.”

The mayor called the regularly scheduled meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.

All council members, including Mayor Adamson, Emily Burrichter, Mitch Lange, Mitch Luttchens and Doug Meyer, were present.

Others in attendance included City Clerk Steve Schuldt, and Maintenance Supervisor Meyer.

The meeting agenda, minutes from the February 13 council meeting, as corrected, and the February financial reports were unanimously approved. Mayor Adamson shared his appreciation with Schuldt and Meyer, “Well done on the delinquent accounts, gentlemen.” Residents needing financial assistance to pay their bills should contact Semcac.

Maintenance Supervisor Meyer confirmed that Hoskins Electric has ordered everything for the well house and lift station upgrade project and that the pivet wheels have also been ordered.

Habitat for Humanity has not scheduled any workdays in March. Mayor Adamson said that progress on the Habitat for Humanity house at 204 Iowa Ave. N. Eitzen, was made in February and the project is “moving forward.”

Mayor Adamson said that it looks as if the purchase of a trench box might get pushed off until next year as the city has not heard anything back regarding the grant or the city might rent one.

Both the mayor and Councilmember Luttchens confirmed that they will attend the Local Board of Appeal meeting on April 25. The meeting is at 6 p.m. and will be held at city hall.

The Welcome to Eitzen sign needs some TLC and to be freshened up. The council approved replacing the roof. The 4-H club will help with the sanding and staining. Help with the flowers would be greatly appreciated since there is not a street beautification committee.

The council thanked Maintenance Supervisor Meyer for his 20 years of service to the city.

Before adjourning the meeting at 7:36 p.m., the council unanimously approved paying the bills.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Eitzen City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, at 6 p.m. The city council meeting is held in city hall (next to the fire station) at 202 East Main Street, Eitzen, Minn. The public is invited to attend. Contact Steve Schuldt, city clerk, at (507) 495-3017 or eitzen@acegroup.cc. Office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
