The Eitzen City Council held its first meeting of 2026 on Tuesday, January 13. The meeting was called to order at 6:07 p.m. by Mayor Jeff Adamson. Present were Mayor Jeff Adamson and council members Doug Meyer, Mitch Lange, Emily Burrichter and Mitch Luttchens. Also in attendance were Steve Schuldt, city clerk and Darryl Meyer, maintenance.
Mayor Adamson apologized that the minutes from December 9, 2025, city council meeting were not completed but promised that they would be finalized by the end of the week. The financial statements were reviewed and unanimously approved as presented with a motion by Councilor Burrichter and seconded by Councilor Luttchens.
Unfinished Business
In unfinished business, Schuldt informed the council that the city still has not heard anything from the EPA regarding the citation. The proposed telecommunications tower/emergency services project has been paused. Schuldt announced that he applied for a polling place accessibility grant for “roughly” $12,000. He was notified that the town received $4,077.60 for the new accessible double doors at the community center. The funds have not been received yet.
New Business
Councilor Lange made a motion to approve the 2026 committee appointments. The fee schedule will be looked at next month once Schuldt gets “printouts on electrical income and outflow, sewer, water, and garbage.” Adjustments will be made as need be to the fee schedule. The motion was seconded by Councilor Meyer. The motion was unanimously approved.
The city council has received many positive comments from residents regarding the upgrades made to the community center in 2025. Councilor Luttchens said he has heard nothing but good things. Mayor Adamson said that an Eitzen Community Center sign has yet to be purchased and installed above the main entrance if the council wants to. The council discussed taking out a $165,000 short-term loan for capital improvements to the community center. After the council meeting Mayor Adamson took the media on a tour of the recently remodeled community center.
Councilor Luttchens made a motion to approve the Caledonia Ambulance contract. The cost is $24 per person and is based off the 2020 census. The total cost of the contract is $6,696. The motion was seconded by Councilor Burrichter. The motion was unanimously approved.
Both Councilor Luttchens and Schuldt have not heard anything from the state regarding the Wiegrefe Foundation acquisition. They confirmed that the state must approve of it first.
Maintenance Supervisor Meyer was asked by the mayor if everything was going well to which he immediately replied yes.
Before adjourning the meeting at 6:29 p.m., the council unanimously approved paying the bills with a motion by Burrichter, seconded by Lutchen.
