Eitzen Hits a Home Run

August 18, 2025 by Charlene Corson Selbee

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Eitzen City Council was called to order by Mayor Jeff Adamson at 6:02 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12.

Mayor Adamson reported that the Little League season was a success and that everyone he spoke with appreciated everything that the Lions Club, fire department, and the city do to make it happen. Council member Meyer said there are a lot of thankful people. He had two people stop by that day to thank everyone for their efforts. Mayor Adamson said, “It was pretty cool, and we’re gonna continue that and make it bigger and better every year.”

Present were councilors Emily Burrichter, Doug Meyer, Mitch Luttchens, and Mitch Lange, along with Mayor Jeff Adamson. City Clerk Steve Schuldt and Maintenance Supervisor Darryl Meyer were also in attendance.

City Clerk Steve Schuldt presented the July financial reports for approval. He confirmed that the city is operating in the black and that the checkbook balances.

Unfinished Business

At the July council meeting, the board unanimously approved paying the $4,186.56 EPA citation. However, since that meeting, the EPA has requested additional information from the city and informed officials that payment should not be made at this time. They also would not let the city sign the document.

The mayor will contact GSS on Wednesday to update them on the progress of the access point.

Work on the community center is moving forward. Mayor Adamson reported that the rafters for the lean-to were delivered, and that the shingles and other materials are on order. The concrete work is expected to begin within the next couple of weeks. Councilor Lange would like the contractor to use caution tape around the construction site every night.

The city will coordinate with the contractors to ensure that one side or the other remains open to accommodate upcoming events at the community center. “We’ve got some reunions, some smaller family gatherings. We don’t have any big weddings or anything. So we should be okay that way,” Adamson said.

New Business

The council unanimously approved the AgVantage propane contract for 2800 gallons-the same amount used last year-at a rate of $1.44 per gallon, totaling $4,032. Schuldt noted  that the city paid $1.43 per gallon last year.

Maintenance Supervisor Meyer reported that everything is going good. The trees that were down have been cleaned up and the fences are fixed.

An insurance claim has been started for the missing shingles on the lower food stand and the community center.

Mayor Adamson called to adjourn the meeting at 6:14 p.m., following unanimous approval to pay the bills.
