Eitzen Council Reviews City Updates, Habitat Open House, and 4th of July Recap

July 14, 2025 by Charlene Corson Selbee

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Eitzen City Council was called to order at 6:01 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8.

Present were council members Emily Burrichter, Doug Meyer, Mitch Luttchens and Mitch Lange, along with Mayor Jeff Adamson. City Clerk Steve Schuldt was also in attendance.

The council unanimously approved the meeting agenda, minutes from the June 10 meeting, and the June financial reports. The only discussion involved delinquent accounts, outstanding balances will be rolled into the property taxes at the end of the year.

Unfinished Business

Under unfinished business, the council received updates on two pending items. The city approved issuing a check to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding a citation. It was noted that the original amount of $5,582.08 was reduced to $4,186.56. The council unanimously approved the payment.

The city has not received an update from City Attorney Murphy regarding the proposed telecommunications tower and emergency services.

Mayor Adamson updated the council on the community center project. “I talked to the boys, we’re gonna get some samples, and colors of the rook and different things together so we can make some decisions and work on a timeline. It sounds like they are busy,” he said.

New Business

The council reviewed a request from Kerry Jackson to build a 14’ x 20’ carport/garage on his driveway. Mayor Adamson noted that the proposed structure would be significantly out of compliance with current setbacks requirements. Clerk Schuldt added that Jackson’s plans were vague, and more information and detailed drawings are needed before the council could take any action.

Announcements

A reminder was given that Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region is hosting an open house at the Eitzen Habitat for Humanity house on Tuesday, July 15 from 3-4 p.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Discussion

Council members had little to add about the town’s Fourth of July celebration, stating that it went very well. However, Council member Meyer mentioned that parking along the parade route remains a recurring issue.

Adjournment

Mayor Adamson called to adjourn the meeting at 6:11 p.m., following approval to pay the bills. Clerk Schuldt noted that not all bills are listed due to the early meeting date. “This is what I got. Nothing unusual,” he said.

He also reminded attendees that the Lions Club was meeting at 7:30 p.m. that night, in case anyone wished to attend.
