Douglas Jay Minnich

March 2, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Douglas Minnich obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Douglas Jay Minnich, age 86, of Grand Meadow, Minn., died Friday February 26, 2021 at his home in Grand Meadow where he had lived since he was a child.

He was born January 25, 1935 to Guy and Edna (Ridgeway) Minnich in Iowa. At a young age he moved with his family to Grand Meadow where he attended school. Doug went on to Albert Lea Vo-Tech and studied refrigeration, later starting and running his own business, Doug’s Appliance Service.

Doug was united in marriage to Kaye Aug on December 19, 1958, in Greenleafton, Minn., and to this union three children were born: Saneita, Debra and Jay.  Kaye passed away on April 21, 2015. Doug loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Ella. Time spent watching her sporting activities, listening to her play piano, hunting and going fishing brought him great joy.  Doug also enjoyed gardening, tinkering, watching Minnesota Sports, the Twins, Vikings and Gophers. He was always the first one there to lend a helping hand for family and friends and he could fix just about anything.

He is survived by his children Saneita Ludemann of Rochester, Minn., Debra (Eric Shoop) Minnich of Grand Meadow, Minn., and Jay (Julie) Minnich of Stewartville, Minn.; a granddaughter, Ella Marie Minnich; a grandson, Ethan Yost of Stewartville, Minn.; step-grandchildren Joe (Angie) Ludemann, Jennifer (Andy) Langholz and Kristen (Justin) Frana; five step-great-grandchildren, siblings Jolle Davis of Rochester and Harley (Helen) Minnich of Texas, a brother-in-law, Richard (Carol) Aug of Rochester; and a sister-in-law Faye Alden of Austin, Minn. He is also survived by special friend Marge Foster of Grand Meadow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and siblings Everett, John, Tom, LeRoy, Max, Gertrude, Inez, Ila, Ruth and Kate.

There will be a Celebration of Life visitation from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow. Condolences may be left at www.HindtFuneralHome.com
