A graveside service was held Thursday, March 25, 2021, at the Chatfield Cemetery in Chatfield, Minn.

He was born in Fort Collins, Colo., to William Ferguson and Ellen Ferguson.  His father was a dentist in Fort Collins.  His mother was a speech therapist.

Douglas graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in 1981.  He attended DeVry University in Phoenix, Ariz., where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1984.  After graduating from DeVry, Douglas worked for ASC Capacitors as a capacitor design engineer in Ogallala, Nebr.  In 1989 Douglas accepted a job at Cytomation Inc. in Fort Collins, Colo., where he helped advance the field of flow cytometry.  He received his very first patent there, #6746873 “Vibratory system for a sorting flow cytometer.”  In 2003, Douglas shifted his focus to another one of his passions, telecommunications, device monitoring and reporting, working for Independent Technologies. Douglas’s interests included seeing the world, having climbed to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya, Africa.  He also enjoyed flying with his brother Andrew and sky diving.  Douglas was a huge advocate of the 2nd amendment and participated in many firearm safety and training courses.  Douglas was also an active amateur radio operator (AB0EX) and enjoyed talking to people all over the world.

He is survived by his father William Ferguson, and his brother Andrew Ferguson.  He was preceded in death by his mother Ellen Ferguson.
