Dorothy Jeannette Anderson

May 11, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Dorothy Anderson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Dorothy Jeannette Anderson, 90, of Rushford, passed away on May 10, 2021. She was a resident of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Dorothy was born on December 28, 1930, to Paul and Alfa (Kulsrud) Larson in Preston.  She graduated from Austin High School in 1948.  She met Morris Anderson at a roller skating rink and “fell” in love.  They were married in Austin, Minn., on May 5, 1951.

Dorothy was active in several community organizations including the Town and Country Federated Club, Rushford Lutheran Church WELCA, Bible Circle, RLC Choir, Knitting Club, and the Red Hat Club.  Often with a cup of coffee in hand, Dorothy enjoyed breakfast with the ladies in the local restaurants, quilting at Rushford Lutheran Church, and supporting school activities.  She loved the many friends and family that brought joy to her life in the Rushford-Peterson community.  Her kitchen table always had space and food for her children/grandchildren and their friends that visited.  Dorothy and Morrie enjoyed their many travels around the United States and trips to Germany and Norway.

Dorothy was a wonderful mother to her five children.  With a young family, she enjoyed their annual two-week vacations pulling the camper for the sightseeing adventures.  She also cherished the 25 years of family gatherings with themed celebrations at the Anderson cabin.

Perhaps, Dorothy was most accomplished as a grandma.  She excelled in this role.  She provided baking experiences, craft days, dress-up time, and volunteering opportunities.  She also shared life lessons with her kindness, patience, generosity, and resilience.  The visits with grandma were always fun-filled days.

Dorothy is survived by her five children: Mike (Sue) Anderson of Dodge Center, Maureen Hurley of La Crescent, Karen (Steve) Culhane of Rushford, Kathy (Lance) Jameson of Eagan, and Jeff (Jill) Anderson of Superior, Wis.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren Bev Benson, her sister; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Morris, parents Paul and Alfa Larson,  Doris Forland, her twin sister; five brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, a niece, a granddaughter, and a great-grandson.

There will be a funeral service for Dorothy at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Rushford Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Steve Chellew officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Please leave a memory of Dorothy and sign her online guestbook at www.hofffuneral.com.
