Doris Lanning obituary, Fillmore County Journal

In Loving Memory of Doris Lanning

Doris Lanning, AKA Mom, Grandma and Gigi. She joined her husband, siblings, and friends in heaven on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the age of 86 years. Doris was born May 14, 1939, in Rushford, Minn., to Russell and Thelma Anderson. Doris worked with her husband Ferman when they purchased Lanning’s Red Owl in 1967. She later joined the Plainview Ambulance crew and was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church Women (ILCW). Doris’s true passion was taking care of her loved ones, knitting Gigi blankets, and baking delicious bars and cookies. She created dish cloths, potholders, and sweaters made with love that will be cherished forever.

Her spirit is carried on by her four children Peggy (Vic) Ching of Plainview, Butch “Brian” Lanning of Las Vegas, Nev., Brenda Lanning of Plainview and Tara (Dan) Follmuth of Carver, Minn.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, five surviving siblings and an extended family of relations and friends who she gathered around her throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ferman, brothers Richard and Lyle Anderson and twin sister Diane Grover, son-in-law Bill Barnes, and infant great-grandson Christian Murphy.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. Visitation will take place on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at Schad and Zabel Funeral Home, 57 3rd Street SW, Plainview, Minn., and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Living Hope or charity of your choice.
