Donna Jean Meyer, 82, went home to her Savior on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, Minn., surrounded by her family.
Donna Jean (Galster) Meyer was born on January 22, 1941, in Jamestown, N. Dak., to John and Ruth Galster. Donna spent her growing up years in Sioux Falls, S. Dak., where she graduated high school in 1959. She then traveled to Concordia College in St. Paul where she obtained her teaching license and was called to teach at St. Johns Lutheran Parochial School in Wykoff, Minn.
It was there where Donna met her husband Verdonn Meyer. Donna and Verdonn were married at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff, Minn., on November 17, 1962. They built a beautiful life in Preston, Minn., where Donna taught for two years at the Preston Public Elementary School.
Donna and Verdonn had three children: Jadell, Jay and Scott. In 1984 Donna and Verdonn moved to Fairfax, Minn., and later retired to their lake home in Forada, Minn. For many years they enjoyed the warmth of friends and weather during the winter months in Mesa, Ariz.
Donna spent her life volunteering at churches, nursing homes, school systems and other organizations. She enjoyed dancing and crocheting but her greatest joy was raising and caring for her family.
Donna is survived by her husband Verdonn Meyer, daughter Jadell (Joel Fasnacht) and sons Jay and Scott (Karah Sandifer), six grandchildren: Gabriell Fasnacht, Isabell Fasnacht, Alleigh Meyer, Jackson Meyer, Lydia Meyer and Landon Meyer; and two brothers, Donald Galster and Alan Galster.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Galster.
A funeral service for Donna will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wykoff, Minn., with Pastor Peter Haugen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation for Donna will begin at 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
