Donald Virgil Amdahl, age 94, of Mabel, died Friday, July 8, 2022 at Green Lea Senior Living in Mabel.
Donald was born July 22, 1927, in rural Mabel, Minn., to Burnett and Pearl (Peterson) Amdahl. On June 10, 1951, he married Leona Nordeng in Deforest, Wis. Donald was a truck driver for a few years and in 1945 he started farming. He was a cattle buyer for Morken Livestock and then owned and operated the Mabel Implement and later, Amdahl Chevrolet in Mabel. Donald and Leona spent many winters in Texas. He was a life-long member of the Scheie Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking and making music, especially playing his guitar and singing for the residents at many of the area nursing homes. Don served as mayor of Mabel and on various church and township boards.
Donald is survived by his wife of 71 years, Leona of Mabel; a son, Steve of Mabel; two sisters, Doris Brokken of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Betty Sandvik of Rochester; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Amdahl of New Richmond, Wis., and Charlotte Amdahl of Maricopa, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David; three brothers: Oliver “Bud,” Burgee, and Richard; and brother-in-law Keith Sandvik.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 12 at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel. Burial took place in the Scheie Cemetery. Visitation was be one hour prior to services at the church. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel assisted with arrangements.
