Donald N. Cummings, 80, of Chatfield, Minn., died Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.

Donald Neil Cummings was born November 1, 1937, to Elvyn and Corcella (Oftedal) Cummings in Preston, Minn.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955.  Donald’s basic training was completed in Great Lakes, Ill. He served on the USS Lexington and he was assigned to San Diego, Calif., with the NAS Miramar Fighter Squadron One-Twenty-One.  On December 26, 1965, he married Yvonne Hanson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  He drove truck for ROMAC Ready Mix and later Leitzen Ready Mix.  He and his wife enjoyed camping and going to their cabin in northwest Wisconsin.  Donald also enjoyed hunting pheasant, squirrel, and deer.

Donald is survived by his sister, Carol (Joe) Gosi of Fountain, Minn., sister-in-law Alice Cummings of Preston, Minn., sister-in-law Marjorie (Gerald) Parker of Lanesboro, Minn., brother-in-law Duane Hanson of Corpus Christi, Tex., brother-in-law Darrell Hanson of Oklahoma City, Okla., brother-in-law Steve Hanson of Pine Island, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, sisters Jeanne Fisher and Phyllis Utley, brother Warren Cummings, and special friend, Darlene Cooper.

A funeral service will be held Friday, July 20, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1212 12th Avenue NW, with the Reverend Dr. Charles Ortloff officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Memorials are preferred to Chosen Valley Care Center and Season’s Hospice.
