On March 21, Fillmore County dairy producers gathered for their annual Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) and Midwest Dairy meeting and awards banquet at the Branding Iron restaurant. A Midwest Dairy update was given by Margaret Johnson and the DHIA business update and awards for 2023 were given. Awards presented were: Premier Dairyman – Trailside Holsteins, Fountain; Top Living Lifetime Production Cow – Crystal View Farms, Fountain; Most Improved Herd – Wingert Registered Holsteins, Harmony; Low Somatic Cell Count Herd – Trailside Holsteins, Fountain. Plaques were also presented to top individual cows from each breed and to all herds with over 800 pounds of protein. Dairy Night on the farm was announced and will be on June 22, at Heusinkveld Farms in rural Spring Valley.
