September 9, 2024 by Fillmore County Journal

DeWayne Vogt obituary, Fillmore County Journal

DeWayne G. Vogt, age 86, of Bloomington, Ill., and formerly of Preston, Minn., died peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Luther Oaks Skilled Care in Bloom-ington, Ill.

DeWayne was born on January 23, 1938, in the township of Hebron, Kossuth County, Iowa, to Carl and Geneva Vogt.  DeWayne grew up on a farm outside of Owatonna, Minn.  He attended Owatonna High School, graduating in 1956.  He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Yorktown (CVS-10) and was honorably discharged in 1958.  After serving in the Navy, he returned to Owatonna, Minn., and was employed at Gandy Company as a machinist.  He married Norma Bruessel on August 31, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Medford, Minn. They resided in the Owatonna area until 1973 when they moved their family to Preston, Minn.

In Preston, DeWayne and Norma purchased the Preston Iron Works Inc. in December 1972.  They operated the business from 1972 to 2003 when DeWayne retired. After retirement he continued to enjoy working in his machine shop.  He had a passion for gardening, mowing and home projects.  He and Norma enjoyed visiting their daughters and grandchildren and traveling.  He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Preston, a member of the American Legion in Preston, a member of the Preston Historical Society and a member of the USS Yorktown Association.

DeWayne is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma; his children: daughter Jaylene Taubert (Scott) of Bloomington, Ill., daughter Patty Hilzendeger (Perry) of Van Meter, Iowa, daughter Debbie Jordan (Craig) of Oregon, Wis; his six grandchildren: Christa Taubert Koss (Lance), Alizabeth Taubert Young (Matt), Nikolas Hilzendeger, Sean Hilzendeger, Alex Jordan and Connor Jordan; and his two great-granddaughters, Adelaide Taubert Koss and Holland Taubert Koss; siblings Donald Vogt (Rita), Roger Vogt (Jean), LaVae Ringen (Arvin), Larry Vogt (DeAnne); sister-in-law Colleen Bruessel (Terry Bull); and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

DeWayne is preceded in death by his father Carl Vogt, mother Geneva Vogt, sister Deloris Nygaard, brother Russell Vogt, nephew Rodney Vogt; mother-in-law Helen Bruessel, father-in-law Clarence Bruessel, and brother-in-law Duane Bruessel.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kris Hertsgaard Kincaid officiating.  Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday.  Private family burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minn.

The family would like to thank all the nurses, CNAs and staff at Luther Oaks Skilled Care for all their love and support of DeWayne over the past two years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of DeWayne to Christ Lutheran Church of Preston, Minn., or the Preston Historical Society of Preston, Minn.
