Deborah R. Sustrick passed away on December 19, 2021, in the Winona hospital. She was 66 and died from complications of diabetes.
She was born in East Los Angeles on March 8, 1955 to Carl and Peggy Thompson. Many people remember her father Carl Thompson of Lanesboro. He built a trimaran boat in California that they lived on for a time till her folks divorced and she moved to Florida to be with her ma. There, in Florida, she met her future husband John Sustrick. They moved up to his home state of Michigan in 1973. They married on a very special day of February 29, the leap year day of the bicentennial year 1976. They have been inseparable since.
Deborah was the best friend to all animals. There wasn’t a dog that she passed on the street that she didn’t stop to pet and ask their name. She loved her Harley Low Rider motorcycle with a sidecar, that many will remember seeing her buzzing around in rain or shine. She was a very tough girl who lived with much pain throughout her life, but still carried on She loved and took care of her husband John as well as anyone could. She had a big heart and would help someone if she could. She was very smart and John called her the “Jeopardy Queen.” She is loved and will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her husband and her mother, Peggy. May she be without pain and rest in peace.
A memorial is planned for a later date.

Hoot Hoot, old friend.
Had you on my mind these past few weeks, now I know why.
Sorry to hear this John.

Debstar (as I called her) was a true spitfire, sharp and sassy but with the biggest kindest heart I’ve ever found in a human being. I’ve kept her friendship the longest of any in my life, so it is beyond sad to learn she has gone on. One of the brightest stars in my sky has winked out, but the place she held against the sky will always hold her spark for me. I sincerely hope to find your spunky smile waiting at the door for me one day.
Rock On, Debstar!

She was a wonderful sister-in-law and the best wife to my brother. I loved her dearly and miss her so much. She was so easy to talk to and she was so talented! She was amazing-can’t believe she is gone. She will always be remembered.

John, I am so sorry to hear about Deb. I’ve been wanting to call you, I see you still have a land line, so will call soon. After Carl passed away, I didn’t get to see Deb often. But I really enjoyed the moments I did. My deepest sympathy to you & Peggy. Hugs, Carrie
