Dean A. Austin

Dean A. Austin, age 75, of Mabel died Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at his home.

Dean was born November 11, 1943, in Spring Grove, Minn., to Adrein and Helen (Thompson) Austin.  He graduated from the Mabel High School in 1961. On November 18, 1961, he was united in marriage to Arlene Emery.  They lived and farmed in rural Mabel, eventually living on the Thompson family farm.  In the 1970s Dean started a livestock trucking business that he had continued to operate his entire life.  Taking care of his customers was a priority for Dean.  Land conservation and animal welfare was important to him.

Dean was a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church.  He was a strong democrat.  He enjoyed spending time with family and was especially proud of his daughters and grandchildren.  He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and could talk to anyone. 

Dean is survived by his wife Arlene of Mabel; two daughters: Becky (Scott) Selness of Mabel and Lynee (Rod) Hamilton of Mountain Lake, Minn.; four grandchildren: Tyler Austin Hamilton (Margau Jensen), Haley Rose Hamilton (Dalton Streff), Jon Thomas Selness, and Michael Scott Selness; four siblings: Dianne (Al) Havlik of Rochester, Minn., Lamont of Mabel, Julie (Leon) Gunderson of Harmony, and Wayne (Terry) of Mabel; He was preceded in death by his parents Adrein and Helen. 

Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at the Newburg United Methodist Church in rural Mabel, with the Rev. Pamela Seebach, officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be 4–7 pm, Tuesday, October 29 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel.  Memorial are preferred to the Newburg Methodist Cemetery.
