The visitation will be Thursday June 3 from 5-8 p.m., also at the funeral home, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Mr. Rappe, of Rochester, died Sunday May 23, 2021, at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester.

David William Rappe was born March 3, 1942, in Preston, Minn., the son of Edwin and Maxine (Smaby) Rappe. Raised in Fountain, he was a member of the 1960 graduating class at Preston High School. On September 29, 1962, he married Marcia Miller in Preston. David was a mechanic at Gunderson Motors in Preston, and in 1966 he began his career with IBM. He worked in quality control, retiring after 34 years in 2000. Following retirement, he kept busy as a groundskeeper at Byron Links, he did farm work for a friend, and volunteered at Camp Victory. He loved animals, particularly horses and dogs. He enjoyed bird watching, was a model train enthusiast, and he collected and restored tractors and snowmobiles. He was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church in Rochester, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is survived by his wife Marcia Rappe of Rochester; son Mark (Linda) Rappe of Kasson, daughter Susan (Michael) Swanson of Zumbro Falls, grandchildren, Andy (Jacquie) Lamm, Sam Rappe, Daniel Rappe, Ellie (Andrew Finley) Swanson, Emily (Ryan) Richardson, and Eric Swanson; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is David’s sister Phyllis Toloken of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter, Rosie Swanson.
