Dave Schmidt

Dave Schmidt, 77, of Preston, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Chosen Valley Care Center.

Dave was born March 30, 1942, son of Gerald and Carol (Hahn) Schmidt.  After graduating from Preston High School, he went on to college at Wartburg College for two years, and then transferred to the University of Minnesota; where he graduated with honors.

In 1965, he married Jeanette Larsen at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston.

After college, Dave worked for a year at Hormel in Austin.  He then had a 40-year career as a farmer who focused his attention on the health of his animals and the health of the soil.

After farming, he was a crop insurance adjuster for several years.  He was also the head usher at Christ Lutheran Church for several years.

Survivors include his wife Jeanette, three children: Diana Schmidt of Wabasha, Paul (Karen) Schmidt of Preston, and Sarah Schmidt of Madison, Wis.; two grandchildren, Vaughan Schmidt at Luther College and Devan Schmidt of Greenleafton; two brothers, Richard (Wanda) Schmidt of Fort Collins, Colo., and Chris (Marlene) Schmidt of Richfield; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service for Dave will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, September 16, 2019, at Christ Lutheran Church, with Pastor Dan Bredberg officiating.  Burial will be in Carimona Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.  Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home is assisting the family.
