Darwin Halverson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Darwin “Dar” Neil Halverson, 72, of Rochester, passed away peacefully following a short battle with cancer on May 3, 2021, at Rochester Health Services West.

Dar was born on May 12, 1948, in Lanesboro, Minn., to Sabert and Carol (Johnson) Halverson. He grew up in Canton, Minn., and graduated from Canton High School in 1966 (the last graduating class before consolidation with Mabel). He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968. He served active duty in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in November of 1969. On January 31, 1972, he married Inez Winslow in Cheyenne, Wyo. Together, the couple made Rochester their home. Dar worked for Pepsi and Minnesota Loan before working as general manager of Kuehn Motors for over 43 years. He was a smart businessman who was well known to many. He loved fishing, elk hunting, camping and golfing.

He is survived by his wife Inez of Rochester, his children Nicki Halverson of Bozeman, Mont., and Brett (Anna) Halverson of Mt. Horeb, Wis.; grandchildren Willow Rose and Lucy; two brothers, Daryl of Indianapolis, and Donald of Houston, Tex.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Duane, and his sister Delayne.

The memorial gathering for Dar will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home from 1-4 p.m. His ashes will be interred in the MN State Veterans Cemetery – Preston at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Hospice Program or the American Cancer Society.
