Daniel Wallace Hutton

April 22, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal 8 Comments

Daniel Hutton obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Daniel Wallace Hutton, age 82, of Harmony, Minn., passed away on April 21, 2025.

Dan was born in Decorah, Iowa, on October 24, 1942, the son of Helen and Wallace Hutton.  He was the second youngest of six children.  From an early age and throughout life, his love was the family farm.

While earning a B.A. in Business at Luther College, Dan met Arla Mae Attwooll, who he married in December 1965.  Together they raised three children.  Dan was a proud farmer, but his true legacy lies in the natural beauty created in restoring native prairie grasses and wildflowers.  Like the roots of the prairie, memories of him run deep.

Dan enjoyed long Gator rides, walking in the woods, fishing rainbow trout at the pond, playing music (loudly) to suit the mood, spending time with family and friends, and traveling to South America – Argentina and Chile being his favorite destinations.

We will miss his wisdom, honesty, guidance, calming presence, sense of humor, charisma, and independent spirit.  He had unwavering commitment and mutual gratitude of others in recovery.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Wallace, brother Peter, and sisters Naomi and Patricia.

Dan is survived by his wife Arla, their children Thomas (Fabiana), Katherine (Jon), and Peter (Carrie); grandchildren Aaron, Julian, Denise, Livia and Helen; sister Donis, brother Robert, nieces and nephews, and many friends he loved like family.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 1-4 p.m. at the Hutton homestead.

In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to Scotland Cemetery Association, c/o Darla Ebner, 302 Cottage Grove Ave SE, Preston, MN 55965 or a charity of your choice.

Arla-so sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. As you know we were good friends during the college years and beyond. A special guy to hang out with. He was true to himself and always shared his views on all topics. His views ranged from dead serious to quite hilarious. We all will miss him but the good memories will stay. — Jerry Ode

    Arla
So sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. My heart goes out to you with love and concern. You were a very caring couple for many and you had many years together. Cherish those times as I did when we road thru the farm looking at the beautiful scenery he loved. Blessings to you ODAT.
