Dale Dahly, age 73, of Preston, Minn., passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020, at Gundersen Harmony Care Center in Harmony, Minn., where he had resided since September 2018 due to advancing Alzheimer’s.
Dale Curtis Dahly was born on June 5, 1946, to Halver and Marion (Christianson) Dahly in Preston, Minn. Dale graduated from Harmony High School in 1964 and attended the Auto Body Repair program at the Vo-Tech in Austin, Minn. Dale spent many years at Jerry’s Body Shop and later the Preston Body Shop. His love of all things related to cars and driving led him to other various jobs, including National Bushing in Preston and driving school bus for Fillmore Central School District. He loved “working” with cars, and turned his classic car into a hot rod! Dale also enjoyed providing transportation to friends who needed to get to various appointments. His hobbies, in addition to cars, included intricate painting of ornaments, wood carving, and coloring.
On July 12, 1975, he married Nancy Ericson at First United Methodist Church in Red Wing, Minn. To this union two children were born, Mike and Rick. Life was full of camping and vacations, a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, traveling to and cheering at his children’s events, welcoming grandchildren, and a wonderful all family vacation to Hawaii in 2017.
Dale is survived by his wife Nancy, sons Mike (Andrea) Dahly of Providence, R.I., Rick (Jen) Dahly of Fountain, Minn., grandchildren Ella and Lauren of Fountain, Russ and Remi of Providence; and a nephew, Denis Dahly. He was preceded in death by his parents and step brother Gary.
The family wishes to express grateful appreciation to the Gundersen-Harmony Care Center caregivers for the love and compassionate care Dale received.
A memorial service will be held at the Preston United Methodist Church at a later date. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home is assisting the family.
