Daisy (Sears) Peter, 94, died February 5, 2017 at 6:40 a.m. at Green Lea Manor in Mabel, Minn.
Daisy Julia Sears was born in Fillmore County on March 10, 1922 to Julia (Viegen) Sears and Arthur R. Sears. She received her gradeschool education in several country schools, two years at Harmony High, and graduated from Canton High School in 1940.
After graduation, Daisy worked as a waitress and housekeeper in Cresco, Iowa.
Daisy married Roger Peter on March 10, 1944 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. They farmed in the Cresco area until 1961. Then they purchased and relocated to a farm north of Mabel, Minn.
Roger and Daisy retired from farming in 1976, and then moved to Mabel. Daisy volunteered as a 4H, Luther League leader, and Sunday school teacher. After retirement she was a site manager for the Semcac program and an assistant motel manager.
She is survived by two sons, Richard (Shirley) of Rochester and Gerald (DiAnne) of Mabel, one daughter, Rebecca Wheeler (Michael) of Mantorville, seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 12 step great-grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her husband Roger in 2004, a son, Clifford; four brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 9 at Scheie Lutheran Church 43117 160th Street, Mabel, Minn., with Pastor Mary Waudby officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
