Cynthia “Cindy” Sue (Anderson) Bothun, 67, of Chatfield, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday October 25, 2023. Cindy was born January 31, 1956, at Lanesboro Hospital to Ervin and Ilene (Soiney) Anderson. Cindy was the youngest of the five Anderson girls. She grew up in Whalan having days full of “good old fashioned” fun. From swimming in the creek, ice skating and hockey on the neighbor’s flooded yard, to gathering carp from the flood plains for dad to smoke. The Anderson girls ended their days by sleeping 2-3 to a bed. Cindy’s childhood took a drastic change with the passing of her sister Sharon, followed by her father. Though a large part of their heart remained in Whalan, Cindy and her mother moved to Chatfield. Cindy graduated from Chosen Valley High School in 1974.
On May 17, 1975, Cindy and Donald “Ole” Bothun were united in marriage. They made their home in Chatfield, where they raised two children, Heather and Eric. Cindy was employed at Crenlo in Rochester, Valley Design in Fountain, and Bernard Bus in Chatfield throughout the years. She also worked at Kwik Trip and Sunshine Foods in Chatfield. She was known for her work ethic as a dedicated, hardworking employee as was evident in her current employment cleaning at Jac’s Bar and Grill, Shari’s Sports Saloon and Chatfield VFW Post #6913. Cindy was fulfilled by providing pristinely cleaned local establishments. She was a welcoming face to coworkers and customers and greeted them with her sweet smile.
Cindy loved cooking, baking and gardening. It brought her great joy to share it with family and friends. She enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Florida and Arizona with family. Cindy beamed with pride when sharing photos and accomplishments of her two grandchildren, Lainey and Trevyn. Special times were spent on her front porch having coffee or a “smart one.” Cindy was an active member of the Chatfield VFW Auxiliary and Whalan American Legion Auxiliary. She became known for making and sharing her delicious and cooked from scratch scalloped potatoes and ham, BBQs and enchiladas.
