Chuck Fellows

September 19, 2016 by Fillmore County Journal

Fillmore County Journal - Where Fillmore County News Comes First - Chuck Fellows Obituary

Chuck Fellows, age 90 of Canton, Minn., went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 7, 2016, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 15 days. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept 12, 2016 at the Cresco Community chapel in Cresco, Iowa. Burial followed in Elliota Cemetery, rural Canton, Minn. Friends called on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony and on Monday for an hour prior to services at the church.

Charles Warner “Chuck” Fellows of Canton, Minn., was born to Fred and Selma (Gehrand) Fellows on October 23, 1925, in Burlington, Wis. He spent his childhood in Hebron, Ill., and Lyons, Wis., and graduated from Burlington High School in Burlington, Wis., in 1943. He met the love of his life, Erma Reed, at the Delevan Roller Rink in Delevan, Wis. This is where their friendship blossomed. They married on October 10, 1948, in Lyons, Wis., and took their honeymoon to California and back on an Indian motorcycle. To this union were born five children. He and Erma had a dairy farm near Elkhorn, Wis.; in 1974 they moved to a farm near Canton, Minn. He said many times, “It was a privilege to farm.” He was able to farm full-time until 2010 when he was 84, and he missed it every day after that. He loved to read and travel to see all the kids. A few years ago he decided to take a trip to Alaska…alone. It took 11 days and he drove 7,000 miles. He also loved to ride his bicycle, and for about 15 consecutive years, in September, he rode in the MS 150 in Kansas City, Mo. One summer day he decided to ride a double century (200 miles). He set up four 50-mile routes. After he rode each route, he ended up at the farm to get more water, and then he would take off again on the next one. He was a hard worker and quite literally ran everywhere.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Erma. He is survived by his five children: Bill and his wife Marilyn of Harrison, Ark.; Barb and her husband Bob Kracht of Edinburg, Tex.; Carol and her husband Paul Carpenter of Jansen, Nebr.; Diane and her husband Kevin Lewis of Woodbridge, Va.; and Jean and her husband Mitch McElree of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 18 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
