Chelsey (Dehning) Hoscheit described her July 27, 2024, wedding to Jacob Hoscheit as the perfect wedding, uniquely tailored to them. Reflecting on the big day, she emphasized the importance of capturing every moment on video – from the ceremony to the speeches, to the dance and the reception – because the day flies by so quickly.
Payton B. Videography documented the couple’s special day.
Chelsey, the daughter of Dean and Vickie Dehning of Spring Grove, shared personal trivia, “My aunt is my mom’s sister, and my uncle is my dad’s brother, so brothers married sisters. Her cousin Danielle is related to her on both sides.” Chelsey, who went to college in Winona and Rochester, works remotely for Emplify Health in the medical education department.
Jacob, the son of Tom and Manon Hoscheit, grew up on a dairy farm near Caledonia. He studied diesel mechanics in Calmar, Iowa, and now works as a parts specialist at John Deere in Caledonia.
The couple dated in high school but went their separate ways when they left for college. Some years later, mutual friends encouraged Jacob to call Chelsey and ask her out. After Jacob’s simple “Hey” over the phone, the two rekindled their romance.
The couple’s nuclear family includes eight-year-old Libby (Jacob’s daughter from a previous relationship), two-year-old Greyson, and one-year-old Raelyn.
The couple’s engagement began by selecting three rings at Howes Diamond Jewelers in La Crosse, Wis. Jacob was left to make the final selection. Though Chelsey knew Jacob had purchased the ring, the timing of his proposal and which ring he selected was a surprise. He proposed traditionally, down on one knee, and Chelsey’s enthusiastic “Yes!” set their journey in motion. The couple’s engagement was memorialized by J. Erica Photography of Spring Grove.
Their original wedding date was rescheduled due to family events and the birth of their youngest daughter. The final date, July 27, 2024, holds sentimental value, marking both a day of remembrance and newfound happiness for Chelsey’s family.
The couple purchased their invitations online from Zazzle. Chelsey laughed as she shared that she had hoped for a lot of “no’s” but they only received 20. Since their families are large, the wedding was a family affair.
The rehearsal dinner was held on Thursday night at the Four Seasons Community Center in Caledonia and was catered by Elsie’s, a popular restaurant in Caledonia.
It was a smart move to have the rehearsal dinner on Thursday as it gave the couple an extra day (Friday) to finish last-minute tasks and handle any emergencies.
The bride walked down the aisle to her waiting groom in a stunning white sleeveless princess-style dress accented with lace, complemented by a mid-length veil. Her attendants looked equally beautiful in sleeveless wine-colored dresses, all of which were purchased from David’s Bridal in Rochester, Minn. For their hair, Chelsey chose Tamiko’s Salon in Caledonia, while Mary Ann’s Floral and Gifts, also in Caledonia, were responsible for the flowers. The wedding’s color scheme featured elegant shades of wine, tan and green.
The men wore gray vests, white shirts, and gray slacks rented at Teslow’s Formal Wear in Waukon, Iowa.
The wedding ceremony took place at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, where the couple exchanged heartfelt letters. Despite a last-minute officiant change, the day proceeded flawlessly.
The bride and groom each have one grandmother living and they both attended their wedding.
The couple contracted with Reedy Bus Company, La Crosse, Wis., to provide transportation between towns.
Chelsey explained that they wanted to spread their business around since they know so many people in both towns, so they selected Sydnie and Me Photography of Spring Grove to photograph the wedding and reception.
The reception was catered by Elsie’s of Caledonia. An estimated 285 attendees enjoyed a delicious meal of meatballs and ham, potatoes, corn and a bun. The two-tier wedding cake was made and decorated by Festival Foods in La Crosse, Wis., with Chelsey describing the cake as phenomenal.
Instead of doing a bouquet toss, Chelsey dedicated a heartfelt speech to her mom. The bouquet was uniquely meaningful, featuring birth flowers representing her mom and dad, their children and significant others, and grandchildren.
The dance floor was packed all night, with people dancing nonstop to the sounds of DJ Joe Deschler from Spring Grove. The bride and groom had their first dance to “Forever After All” by Luke Combs. Chelsey and her dad danced to “Dance with My Daughter” by Jason Blaine. Meanwhile, Jacob selected “Like Jesus Does” by Eric Church for the mother-son dance.
Children at the reception enjoyed an ice cream bar complete with toppings, which was a hit with all ages. The light sticks were also a favorite.
Despite minor hiccups, like running out of a preferred beer and an unnoticed mishap by the bride and groom at a table, Chelsey and Jacob’s wedding was a celebration of love, family and community. The celebration concluded with a gift-opening gathering on Sunday at the Four Seasons Community Center, Caledonia.
The couple has yet to take a honeymoon but may celebrate their first anniversary with a trip. As Chelsey put it, everything came together perfectly, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
