Sara Kling-Punt
Sara Kling-Punt was hired this year as a K-12 Student Support Coordinator and is also a licensed school social worker. She will work with the elementary school social worker, Ashley Kester, and will be teaching social emotional learning skills at the elementary. She will also be the 504 coordinator for the district and work with high school students as well.
Kling-Punt is a graduate of Montevideo High School. She received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Luther College and her Master’s in Counseling and Psychological Services from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota Graduate and Professional Studies School in Minneapolis, Minn.
This will be her first time working in a public school setting. Previously she was an RCT academic and college transition advisor. In that position she would give presentations on various college success related topics as well as provide information on higher education access; such as how to complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application. She spent five years as an adjunct professor for St. Mary’s University of Minnesota graduate school, teaching career counseling and most recently was employed as a therapist under supervision at Ellie Mental Health.
Asked why she chose to come to a public school she replied, “In my hometown my mom was a well-respected elementary school teacher, and I am so inspired by the connections she made with her students. I truly believe part of this is wired in me as well. Also I love to help provide equitable access to education and teach strategies to ease navigation of complex systems, like college.” She is looking forward to learning about education from a K-12 perspective and learning a lot from her new colleagues.
In her spare time she loves to read, watch plays, travel, play tennis with her family, be outside in nature, compose music and play the piano. She has lived in southeastern Minnesota since 2004 and lives with her family in Lanesboro.
Cheryl Stageberg
Cheryl Stageberg is teaching math this year at Chatfield High School. She will be teaching Intermediate Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II and Personal Finance. In addition, she is coaching the Chatfield Math League Team.
Cheryl is a graduate of Frazee High School with a B.A. in Mathemematics/Physical Education from Concordia College, Moorhead and a Master Degree in Differentiated Instruction from Concordia University, St. Paul. She chose to become a teacher because both of her parents were teachers and her love and respect for them inspired her to become one, too.
Previously Mrs. Stageberg taught in Willmar, Austin and the last 23 years in Stewartville. She is looking forward this year to getting to know her students and becoming a productive member of the Chatfield School Community.
In her spare time, she loves to read, golf, boat and work on home improvement projects. She commutes daily from her home in rural Stewartville.
Bailee Loberg
Bailee Loberg is the new kindergarten teacher at Chatfield Elementary. She is a graduate of Mayo High School and Winona State University with a K-6 degree in Elementary Education. She chose to become an elementary teacher because she was inspired by her grandmother who taught for 37 years.
In her spare time she is a referee for seventh and eighth grade volleyball. She loves to read and watch her favorite shows, which right now are Big Brother and Survivor. Bailee loves to hang out with family and friends as she still lives in Rochester.
She is looking forward to learning all the new things any new teachers learn their first year.
A big welcome to the new staff at Chatfield Public Schools.
