At the August 11 meeting of the city council a bid submitted by Rochester Sand & Gravel in the amount of $1,568,260 for the 2025 street project was accepted. The project contract includes the mill and overlay of portions of 22 streets and retaining wall improvements. Councilors Josh Broadwater and Pam Bluhm were absent.
A resolution was adopted providing for the issuance and sale of a $1,711,000 general obligation street reconstruction and tax abatement note to finance the street project. The owner of the 10-year term note is F & M Community Bank (working in partnership with Root River State Bank). The interest rate is 3.9%. The maturity date is February 1, 2037.
Other Business in Brief
- Approval was granted for the purchase of tasers from Axon Enterprise, Inc. for the police department, requiring a onetime payment of $31,293.
- A revolving loan fund application from Jessica Pedelty, Peddle Tea and Coffee, was approved as recommended by the loan committee. The $60,000 loan will be for 10 years at 4% interest.
- The first reading of Ordinance No. 479, regulating drainage of water from private pools was noted.
- Donations to the library were accepted from Sue Dornack Quilters and Splittstoesser Quilters to be used for capital purchases.
- A resolution was adopted establishing/reestablishing water and wastewater capital reserve funds to provide for ongoing capital goods replacement to sustain the utilities.
- Councilor Mike Urban complemented Director Brian Burkholder, city staff and volunteers for their help in pulling off another successful Western Days. He also complemented them on their dealing with the storm damage.
- Mayor John McBroom reported the League of Minnesota Cities recognized Senator Jeremy Miller and Representative Greg Davids as legislators of distinction.
