Falcons Frenzy to 10 Wins
They can frenzy it up. Led by Kassidy Broadwater’s speed and passing, Emma Breitspecher’s length and tenacity, and Kandace Sikkink’s power and athleticism, Fillmore Central’s girls can overwhelm teams unprepared for such attributes. The Falcons pitched a 3-0 week to get to double-digit wins. On Monday, the FC ratcheted it up in the second half versus Schaeffer Academy, … [Read more...]
Trojans Rally With Solid Wins
The section 1A boy’s race is a fierce competition. Early in January, perennial force Rushford-Peterson sat at 5-5 ahead of three key 1A match-ups. They dropped the first game only to post two solid section wins to make some noise in the 1A race. Hayfield was too much on Tuesday. R-P fell 66-46. Justin Ruberg (14 pts) and Luke O’Hare (11 pts, 5-9 FGs) hit double figures for … [Read more...]

Boys Section 1A a New Race
For the last 15 years, Section 1A boys basketball has had a formula. That formula generally included a lot of R-P and a bit of Goodhue. The Trojans (9) and Wildcats (3) won all but three Section 1A titles. J.W.P., Faribault B.A., and Spring Grove made one-year state runs. Bethany Academy (twice), Southland, FC, BP, and Randolph had seasons, making section title games. Go … [Read more...]
Girls Section 1A: More Formulaic
While the boys races are deep and interesting, the girls 1A race looks like a five-team competition. It’s possible, even likely, that none of last year’s section final four teams, return. Goodhue won’t, as they are 1AA. L/P (3-10) is down. GM (6-5) and Hayfield (5-7) are in the mix, but haven’t won a key section game. The section’s top squad is #5 Blooming Prairie (9-1). … [Read more...]
