Same-script, walk-off win precedes Spring Grove’s season-ending loss

June 9, 2021 by Lee Epps

“Just eerie,” was how Spring Grove baseball coach Chris Strinmoen described the second walk-off win over Fillmore Central/Lanesboro on the same field within six days. The same three Lions played exactly the same three roles in both remarkable, celebration-inducing sequences. The second decision, a 2-1 Lion win, came in the May 31 section opener in front of a great crowd at … [Read more...]

GMLOKS Girls Win True Team State Title

June 7, 2021 by Paul Trende

In a meet well represented by Section 1 teams, but not held at one solitary locale like usual, one ‘Journal 11’ conglomerate lived the dream of becoming state champion.  Four others competed, three doing very well.  The 2021 Class A State True Team Track and Field meet was tabulated virtually, races being run at multiple locales.  Boys and girls teams from GMLOKS and LFCMC ran … [Read more...]

Lions’ come-from-behind, walk-off win highlights Senior Day

June 2, 2021 by Lee Epps

A last-inning, three-run, walk-off rally gave Spring Grove its first lead and a Senior Day, non-conference win against Fillmore Central/Lanesboro, 5-4. Two afternoons after that May 29 thriller, the SEC double header at Adams against Southland was rained out. Twice postponed, they settled for a single, make-up game on Saturday morning, an 11-1, six-inning Senior Day win for the … [Read more...]

GMLOKS Girls Head Five State True Team Qualifiers

June 1, 2021 by Paul Trende

The 2021 Section 1A True Team Meet was different than normal.  Because of COVID restrictions, three sites (Chatfield, Dover-Eyota, Triton) hosted three meets with all the scores getting tabulated “virtually.”  GMLOKS and LFCMC were among those in Chatfield.  RPH was at D-E.  All races were ran in rainy conditions.  Five total squads under the “Journal 11” umbrella … [Read more...]

May 24, 2021 by Paul Trende

One non-conference loss is the difference between Caledonia baseball being on a super-large win streak and a simply a nice win streak.  Brad Augedahl’s Warriors entered the week of May 17 coming off a doubleheader sweep of Cotter.  They added three more wins to streak to five.   Like their seven-game win streak earlier in the year (where Caledonia scored 10 runs in six … [Read more...]

May 17, 2021 by Lee Epps

Spring Grove started the baseball week coming from behind to vanquish visiting Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons, 6-1, and ended the week in the Rochester rain with a strong start to ultimately subdue a stubborn Schaeffer Academy squad, 10-6. In between, Lyle/Pacelli appeared worthy of its No. 5 state ranking with a 17-1 road romp at Blayne Onsgard Memorial Field. The winners of … [Read more...]
