Calvin Duane Shofner

October 28, 2025 by Fillmore County Journal 1 Comment

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Calvin Duane Shofner. He passed away peacefully in Fargo, N. Dak., on August 25, 2025, of heart failure. Cal was Born in Cresco, lowa, on April 7, 1950, to Donald Shofner and Dorothy (Tenney) Shofner. He later moved to Colorado with his mother, sister and brother. After graduating high school, he joined the Navy where he learned many trades such as airplane mechanics. After he was honorably discharged and while still in San Diego he met and married Shirley Wright on March 2, 1974, and together they raised four daughters: LaRonda (Don) Hahn, Crystle (Jim) Bechtel, Nancy (Matt Matousek) Shofner, and Debora (Jason) Durgin. In 1982 they moved to Harmony, Minn., then later to Black Duck, Minn. Calvin’s biggest joys were fishing and cooking his catch for his family, watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and before his passing, his great-great-grandson.

Cal was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Shirley Shofner; his parents, brothers David and Wayne, and sister Mabel.

Please join us at the Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minn., at 2 p.m. on November, 7, 2025, and afterwards at the Preston Servicemen’s Club for desserts and coffee.
