Caledonia/Spring Grove boys track and field coach Reese Wait, pictured above left (far left) with his state title winning team, recently received the U.S. Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association boys track and field Coach of the Year Award for Minnesota. Said award is sponsored by the Marine Corp and recognizes the best high boys and girls coaches, at both the state and national levels, in cross country and track and field. Wait guided a small Warrior contingent to the state Class A team title, as they had two relay state champions, an individual state champ, plus five other podium makers amidst a squad that sent seven guys to state.
Chatfield wrestling coach Matt Mauseth, pictured above right, (far left) with many of his seniors, was honored by the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association as the Class A Coach of the Year and as the State Coach of the Year. Mauseth received his award at a ceremony in early May. He guided Chatfield to a dominant 21-1 season including the Class A state title. Their only loss came to Class AAA powerhouse and state champion St. Michael-Albertville. The Gophers beat opponents on the state level by an average of 39.3 points in grabbing the program’s second wrestling state title.
