Caledonia School Board Meeting Minutes July 15, 2024

The Board of Education of Independent School District No. 299, Caledonia, Minnesota, met in a regular school board meeting in the elementary building room #162. The meeting was called to order by Chair Mike Peterson at 6:00 p.m.  The Pledge of Allegiance was said. The school board members present were Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Melissa Marschall, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, and Spencer Yohe.  Also, present were Craig Ihrke, Nathan Boler, Gretchen Juan, John Wahlstrom, Karen Schiltz, Kaitlin Longhauser, Rose Korabek, Teri Larson, and Erin Spencer. Absent was Barb Meyer and student school board representative Addison Fruechte.

Moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Derek Adamson to approve the agenda as presented.  Motion carried by a unanimous vote.  Moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Leigh King to approve the international travel program proposal for students to travel to London, Paris, and Barcelona and that this trip will not be a cost implication to the school district and will be self-funded.  Motion carried by a unanimous vote.  Moved by Derek Adamson, seconded by Daniel Small to approve the following consent agenda items:  approval of June 17, 2024, regular school board meeting minutes; approval of the electronic transfers and bills due and payable amounting to $1,006,467.91 along with electronic transfers from MSDLAF to Merchants Bank in the amount of $1,100,000.00; accept the resignation of Kathryn Schleich as a special education paraprofessional with her last day being August 7, 2024, with thanks for her past year of service; approve the resignation of Sarah Burfield as a CAPS Care Aide effective July 1, 2024, with thanks for her past six months of service to our school district; accept the resignation of Sue Felten as health office assistant effective immediately with thanks for her past year of service to our school district; ratify the contract for Lisa Chellew as a full-time elementary media paraprofessional at II/9 at $17.89 per hour beginning the 2024-2025 school year; approval of the Education Minnesota Caledonia Educational Support Professionals Local #7345 Master Agreement for the 2024-2026 school years as presented; approval of the 2024-2025 District Employee Handbook, the coach’s handbook, and the Elementary Student/Parent Handbooks as presented; approval of the Long-Term Facility Maintenance Ten Year Revenue and Expenditure Plan as presented; approve the licensed staff sub rate increase to $135.00 (currently $125.00) per day and $67.50 (currently $62.50) per half-day of subbing for days one through twenty.  Teachers who have retired from Caledonia Area Public School District and the other licensed substitutes who have been a substitute for more than twenty days in our school district will receive an increase to $140.00 (currently $130.00) per full day of subbing and $70.00 (currently $65.00) per half day of subbing.  These rates will be effective at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year; approval of the support staff hourly substitute rate from $13.50 per hour to $14.25 per hour effective at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year; and approval of the crossing guards located on Highway 44/76 hourly rate of pay from $13.73 per hour to $14.50 per hour effective at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.  Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Member Spencer Yohe introduced the school crossing guard agreement and moved its adoption.  The motion for adoption of the foregoing agreement was duly seconded by Member Daniel Small and whereupon the agreement was duly passed and adopted.  Member Mike Peterson introduced the resolution for Designation of Identified Official with Authority for the MDE External User Access Recertification System and moved its adoption. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Derek Adamson and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Melissa Marschall, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, and Spencer Yohe.  The following voted against the same:  None.  Motion carried.  Moved by Derek Adamson, seconded by Tim Gunn to ratify the fall sport coaching contracts for the 2024-2025 school year as presented contingent upon participation numbers in each of the activities.  Those voting in favor:  Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, and Spencer Yohe.  Director Melissa Marschall abstained.  Motion carried.  Moved by Leigh King, seconded by Melissa Marschall to ratify the following co-curricular coaching contracts for the 2024-2025 school year as presented contingent upon participation numbers in each of the activities.  Motion carried by a unanimous vote.  Moved by Mike Peterson, seconded by Derek Adamson to close the meeting at 8:12 p.m. to discuss the superintendent evaluation.  Motion carried by a unanimous vote.  Moved by Mike Peterson, seconded by Daniel Small to convene the regular school board meeting at 9:53 p.m.  Motion carried by a unanimous vote.  Moved by Mike Peterson, seconded by Derek Adamson to adjourn the meeting at 9:53 p.m.  Motion carried by a unanimous vote.
