Brian Kerns

November 13, 2017 by Fillmore County Journal

Fillmore County Journal, Brian Kerns obituary

Brian Kerns, age 56, of Canton, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 11 at his home in Canton, following an 18-month battle with cancer.

Brian was born November 5, 1961, in Rochester, Minn., to Lynn and Diana (Dotzenrod) Kerns.  He grew up in the Prosper area and graduated from the Mabel-Canton High School in 1980. On August 29, 1987, he married Lorie Qualy in Lanesboro Minn. They made Canton their home and raised three daughters, Kayla, Alixandra and Kaysie. Brian was an active member of the Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church and served as a church elder. He was also proud to be a long-term member of the Canton Volunteer Fire Department, celebrating his 24th year on November 1. He worked at Minnowa Construction for the last several years and loved his coworkers. Brian was an avid sports fan, especially for the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, but had a passion for all sports. He was a people person and a master at socializing. Brian was happiest spending time with family and friends, and took great pride in his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time in his garage, whether it be watching sports, hosting Vikings parties, grilling out, or working on his many projects. Brian was also known for his wonderful singing voice, which brought much enjoyment to all of those who were fortunate enough to be in his presence.

Brian is survived by his wife Lorie of Canton; three daughters: Kayla (Nick) Nichols of Canton, Alixandra (Travis) Nichols of Mabel, and Kaysie of Canton; three grandsons: Rylin, Ryker, and Brant; his father Lynn of New Hampton, Iowa; two brothers,  Brad (Barb) and Devry (Tina), both of Canton; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Diana Kerns-Fitch and his grandparents.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 16 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton, with Rev. Margaret Jumonville officiating. Burial will be in the Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be 4–8 Wednesday, November 15 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton and one hour prior to services at the church. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
