Bigger and better than ever, the Bluff Country Singers Spring Concert, now with over 50 voices, comes to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley on Sunday, April 23 with concerts at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. A stirring combination of popular, patriotic, and soul arrangements, as directed by Elliott Grandall and accompanied by Suz Eberle, shares the stage with solos by soprano Michelle Salo Turnberg, Josh Hogberg at trumpet, Daniel Hayes-Hall on the baby grand, and Kylie Meyer on the mighty Our Savior’s pipe organ.
The first of four choral sets begins with a Mark Hayes arrangement of the Theme from “New York, New York” followed by “You Raise Me Up.” Then the haunting but reassuring Pilgrims Hymn from the opera “The Three Hermits” is followed by the Broadway hit, “Singin’ in the Rain.”
After Kingsland High School Band Director Josh Hogberg performs the “Allegro Con Spirito” from the Johann N. Hummel Trumpet Concerto in E-Flat, the chorus returns with the extremely soulful “City Called Heaven” featuring a heart stirring solo by Michelle Salo Turnberg. The set concludes with “A Festive Call to Freedom” and the inspirational “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.”
Preceding a break for a freewill offering, Daniel Hayes-Hall performs the Franz List Hungerian Rhapsody N. 6, “Friska” after which the chorus returns with “A Prayer for Heros” featuring Josh Hogberg on trumpet and “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho” with Diane Carr and Suz Eberle sharing the keyboard.
A Kylie Meyer pipe organ solo, “Prelude in Classic Style,” precedes the final choral set of “Morning Trumpet” featuring (you guessed it) Josh Hogberg; followed by a Mark Hayes arrangement of “I Must Tell Jesus,” and will be concluded with a heart-felt rendition of “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
