Beverly Ann Housker, age 88 of Spring Grove passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Harmony Place, Harmony, Minn.
She was born April 27, 1935, (a twin) in Spring Grove to Odin and Viola (Miner) Moen. She was a lifelong resident of the Spring Grove and Mabel area.
She attended school at the brick schoolhouse in Black Hammer for seven years and was a member of the Black Hammer Swift Scooters 4-H Club, entering many hand-sewn items at the fair. She and twin sister Patricia were sometimes the entertainment at the 4-H meeting and sang “Don’t Fence Me In”!
She spent her sophomor year with her brother Vernon Moen in California and went to North Hollywood High School with more than 800 students. It was quite an experience and a very interesting year. She came back home and graduated from Spring Grove in 1953.
Beverly married Glenn Otterness in l953 and later divorced.
Beverly lived her whole life on the farm and loved the country living. She always raised a large garden and did lots of canning and freezing. You could always expect to see a beautifully manicured lawn.
She was a lifetime member of Faith Lutheran Black Hammer Church and held many positions over the years. She taught Sunday School, summer Bible school, was a church deacon and served on the church council. She also held many offices for WELCA, Ladies Aid, and Bible Study. She made many school bags for Lutheran World Relief and tied many quilts over her lifetime.
She served on the Kinneberg School Board until its closing.
She also worked 15 years at the Tweeten Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant. She cared for many elderly relatives and others over the years.
She married Dean Housker in 1975 and helped serve many Norwegian buffets at the Scheie Church where Dean was a member.
She loved having visitors stop by and going for rides around the countryside.
Survivors include her children Kristin (Joel) Black of Ward, S. C., Joyce (Larry) Arneson of Spring Valley, Minn., Brenda (Pete) Exe of Byron, Minn., Allan (Monica) of Mabel, Steven of Osage City, Kans., and John (Julie) of Spring Grove; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her twin sister Patricia Tweito survives.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, Dean in 1998 and Glenn in 2007, parents, and siblings Chester, Thomas, Thelma, Stanley, Vernon, Virginia and Donna.
Funeral services will be October 27, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer, with the Rev. Leonard Liptack officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
