Fillmore County Journal, Betty James obituary

Betty H. James, 96, of Houston, died Friday, September 6, 2019, at Valley View Healthcare & Rehab in Houston.

Betty was born on October 23, 1922, in Hesper, Iowa, to Harry and Clara (Sanden) Welper.  She grew up in the Hesper/Mabel area and graduated from the Mabel High School in 1941.  She married C. Belmont Humphrey on February 9, 1942, in Port Townsend, Wash.  He passed away on September 11, 1966.  She married Vernon James in October, 1968.  He passed away on January 17, 1996.

She was baptized and confirmed at Hesper Lutheran Church.  She was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and the WELCA.  She was a charter member of the Mabel VFW Ladies Auxiliary and also a member of The Sons of Norway, La Crosse Chapter.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Beverly Gustavson (Gary West) of Rochester; three grandchildren: Scott (Kelly) Gustavson of Maple Lake, Betsy Frye of Eagle Lake, and Kraig Gustavson of Rochester; nine great-grandchildren: Joshua, Courtney, Connor, Matthew, Kristen, Macy, Travis, Ashley, and Caden; and two great-great-grandchildren, Taylor and Issac.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 13, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, Minn., with Rev. Linda McPeak officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.  Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting the family with arrangements.
