Bernita Bacon, age 83, of Fountain, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, after a courageous battle with cancer for 34 years.
Funeral services for Bernita Bacon will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Fountain Lutheran Church, with Pastor Dan Bredberg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Fountain Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service of Wednesday.
Bernita Mabel Kujath was born November 15, 1934, in Owatonna, Minn., to Paul and Alvina (Voll) Kujath. She grew up in rural Hayfield, graduating from Hayfield High School in 1953. On October 23, 1954 she was united in marriage to Duaine Bacon in Dodge Center, Minn.
Bernie worked as a telephone operator after graduation until moving to Fountain. Together Duaine and Bernie owned a gas service station business and the IGA Grocery Store. She worked in the upholstery department at Tuohy Furniture and then at Mayo Clinic in the Business Department for 15 years before retiring in 1995.
She was a multi-talented woman that could do anything she set her mind to. Bernie enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, camping, painting, and loved taking care of her grandkids. Bernie and Duaine enjoyed spending winters in Arizona, where they met many new friends. She was a lifelong member of the Fountain Lutheran Church.
Bernie is survived by her husband Duaine of Fountain; daughters Julie (Paul) Gade of Fountain and Laurie Bacon of Preston; grandchildren: Sarah (Andy) Waadevig, Chris (Nicole) Gade, Daysha (Jared) Borst, Kari (Jason Wright) Bacon, Shane Bacon, Kayla (Nick) Peterson, and Trevor (Taylor) Lange; 12 great-grandchildren, a sister, Darlene Beach; brothers Richard Kujath and David Kujath; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Caroline Meyer.
Memorials are preferred to the Fountain Lutheran Cemetery.
