Caledonia’s basketball teams had a week headlined by a conference title, ranked wins, and a pair of boys/girl doubleheader sweeps. The second series between R-P and Caledonia’s ranked teams was highlighted by a pair of Warrior juniors posting big first halves. Caledonia (11-2, 16-7), #14 in AA, used their size to handle the newly ranked #20 in A Trojans (8-4, 18-6). Caledonia junior G/F Josie Foster scored 23 first half points on her way to a game-high 26 (4-12 threes, 6-8 FTs). The big stanza gave her 60 points over 1 ½ games. She scored 37 a game previously versus JCC. Caledonia led 43-24 at intermission and cruised to a 65-40 win. Nicole Banse (10 pts, 7 rebs, 4 asts, 5 stls), Regan King (11 pts, 3 blks),) and Aubrie Klug (8 pts) helped. Nevaeh Happel (11 pts, 3-6 threes) led the Trojans. Joe Hatch’s Trojans have still won 10 of 12 games, only losses to ranked AA squads Cotter and Caledonia. The boys then took the court. Warrior junior Garrett Konz scored 23 first half points on his way to a game-high and efficient 31 (4-6 threes, 12-15 FGs, 5-5 FTs, 7 rebs). Caledonia made 11 straight buckets in the first half to lead 40-16. R-P cut the margin to 45-35 only to trail 52-36 at halftime. Brad King’s group prevailed 94-70. Mason King added 19 points (5-8 threes). Reid Klug (13 pts, 7 rebs) and Ethan Stendel (8 pts) helped. Creighton Hoiness (15 pts, 6-10 FGs), Dawson Bunke (14 pts, 3-7 threes), Cayden Lea (12 pts, 3-5 threes, 4 stls), and Will LaFleur (8 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts) did work for R-P. Both teams are ranked #18, Caledonia in AA, R-P in A. The Warrior teams also took on a doubleheader at Cannon Falls. The girls won easily 76-31. Foster nailed seven threes in the first nine minutes after halftime. She hit eight total and went for 35 (pts), 8 (rebs), 5 (asts), and 4 (stls)! Banse (10 pts, 10 rebs, 7 asts, 4 stls), Klug (10 pts, 8 rebs), and Ashlynn Reinhart (8 pts) helped. The Warriors (12-2, 18-8) also dropped a game to #1 in A Goodhue (see below), but finish the regular season as co-TRC-East champs with Cotter (12-2, 21-5). Scott Sorenson’s group is 1AA’s 3-seed, will host 14-seed La Crescent/Hokah (6-20). The boys notched a big section win in toppling the #8 in AA Bombers (20-5) by 67-59 final. The Warriors never trailed, scoring the first eight points (all by Stendel). Leading 40-36 in the second half, Cal scored 25 of the next 35 to lead 65-46 late. King (19 pts, 5 rebs, 4 stls), Lewis Doyle (17 pts, 3-7 threes), Klug (13 pts, 7 rebs), and Stendel (12 pts, 5-7 FGs, 9 rebs) gave Cal four in double figures. CF’s Dylan Banks scored 17 of his team-high 19 in the first half. He was the only Bomber in double figures. Cannon had 20 turnovers, Cal 10. The Warriors ended the CF’s 10-game win streak. Cannon beat #3 in AA Lake City (19-5) one night previously 69-61. It was Caledonia’s sixth straight win. They (11-1, 19-4) trail #17 in AA La Crescent/Hokah (13-0, 19-6) in the East ahead of a big, TRC match-up.
