Homestands are a thing mainly in Major League baseball. High school baseball is a bit different. But Jason Carrier’s Houston squad had one versus foes FC/L, M-C, R-P and GMLOK the week of Monday April 22. Houston used a seven-run third to annul a 2-0 deficit and dispatch with FC/L 9-2. Zach Olson (2-3, RBI, 2 R), Logan Olson (1-2, 2 RBI, R), Morgan Rohweder (1-3, RBI, R), Nolan Nelson (1-3, 2B, RBI, 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 6 K, Win), Dawson Pedretti (1-4, RBI, R), Tristan Stinson (1-4, RBI, R), and Carter Geiwitz (2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K) did work. Bridon Bahl (3-4, 3B, RBI, R) led FC/L. Thomas Pikula (1-4, RBI) had the other RBI, Tyson Sprenger (1-2) the other run. Team double-H then jumped out on M-C 5-0 and prevailed 6-3. Juniors Rohweder (2-3, two 2B, RBI, 7 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, Win) and Z-Olson (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R) continued their good seasons. Nelson (1-2, RBI), Alex Walters (1-2, R), Pedretti (2-3, 2B), and Jordon Beeman (2-3) helped. M-C was led by Tyler Larson (3-4, R), Isaac Underbakke (2-4, R), and Milton Hutchinson (1-2, 2 RBI). Underbakke (4 2/3 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) took the loss. R-P then threatened Houston with the 10-run rule, up 10-0 in the sixth. The ‘Canes scored four to stay alive, then five more in their bottom of seventh. Axel Vix hit a pinch-hit two-run HR to make it 10-9. But the next batter struck out to end the game. Evan Skalet (2-3, 2 RBI, 3 R) led the Trojans. Cayden Lea (2-4, 2 RBI, R, 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, Win), Jonah Bunke (2-5, R), Rylan Schneider (1-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R), Crieghton Hoiness (1-4, 2 RBI), Evan Kammerer (1-2, RBI), and Carson Johnson (1-2, RBI) helped. Z-Olson (3-4, two 2B, 2 R), Vix (1-1, HR, 2 RBI, R), Rohweder (2-4, RBI, 2 R), and Hector Steinfeldt (1-2, 2 RBI, 4 1/3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, No Decision) led Houston. R-P improved to 2-4, 3-5. In the rain, the ‘Canes rebounded, scored nine in the first, and beat GMLOK 10-4. Rohweder (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R) led the way. Grayden Beckman (1-3, 2 RBI), Z-Olson (1-3, RBI, 3 R), L-Olson (1-2, R), and Nelson (7 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, Win) also did good work. Noah Mundfrom (2-3, 2 RBI, R) and Sam Howard (1-2, RBI, R) led the Bulldogs. Houston improved to 4-4, 6-6. GMLOK fell to 3-3, 3-7.
