Barbara Ann Cleghorn

June 15, 2026 by Fillmore County Journal Leave a Comment

Barbara Cleghorn obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Barbara Ann Cleghorn, 87, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Barbara was born on November 11, 1938, in Cresco, Iowa. After a chance meeting at a roller-skating rink, she married the love of her life, Gene Cleghorn. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. After their marriage, they made their home in Minnesota, where they raised their family and became active members of their community. Barbara and Gene shared 65 wonderful years of marriage before Gene’s passing in 2021. Their love was evident to everyone who knew them. Even after decades together, they were often seen holding hands, and Gene affectionately referred to Barbara as “his bride.” Their marriage was a lasting example of love and devotion.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She found joy in spending time with her family, tending her garden, and creating a warm and welcoming home. A faithful member of Vista Covenant Church in New Richland, Minnesota, her faith guided her throughout her life.

Barbara never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making friends wherever she went. She greeted others with a warm smile, a loving touch on the arm, and a genuine interest in their lives. Her kindness and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

She is survived by her children: Dennis (Kelly Johnson), Deb (Paul Golan), Nadine, Kim (Steve Goracke), and Brian (Jayme Rockow-Cleghorn); nine grandchildren (one deceased), five great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gene Cleghorn, her parents Ira and Blanche Cleveland, her sister Juanita Grimm, and her brother Bernard Cleveland.

A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Vista Covenant Church, 14679 275th Ave., New Richland, Minnesota. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service. Burial will take place at New Oregon Cemetery in Cresco, Iowa, with the procession departing from the church following the luncheon, approximately between 12:30 and 1 p.m.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, friends and loved ones who provided support and comfort throughout Barbara’s journey.

Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Barbara’s legacy of love, faith, and friendship will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Cleghorn family.  To share a special memory or condolence, please visit www.ranfranzandvinefh.com.
