It’s a rarity to have an athlete from any rural community rise to stardom at a professional level. So, when it does happen, people take notice. There hasn’t been a professional football player with Fillmore County, Minn., roots since a Rushford-Peterson High School prodigy named Steve Heiden was drafted as a tight end to play in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers (1999-2001) … [Read more...]

It’s about whether townies should have the right to egg it up. The late KFC kingpin Colonel Sanders would delight in all this crispy chicken chatter. On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, voters living in the City of … [Read more...]

One Moment, Please… Let the free market decide
I keep hearing chatter about raising the minimum wage from $9.65 per hour to $15.00 per hour. That’s greater than a 55% increase! Now, I do believe an increase in minimum wage is warranted, but maybe keeping pace with the rate of inflation makes a little more sense. Maybe a 2.5% to 4% increase in the minimum wage each year would be more sensible. I remember more than 25 … [Read more...]

On Sunday, July 1, 2018, your local United States Postal Service locations will be closed, just like any other Sunday. And, this day has been recognized as National Postal Worker Day. For most people in our area, there are three places they visit on a regular basis: the grocery store, … [Read more...]
