Root River water rescue

According to Fillmore County Sheriff John DeGeorge, Dispatchers received a 911 call on May, 11, 2022, at 3:46 p.m. regarding a kayaker stuck on the root river east of Whalan. An adult female was hanging onto a tree in the Root River after her kayak came in contact with a tree in the water. The Lanesboro Fire Department was able to reach the woman and bring her to shore. DeeAnn was born September 28, 1962, to Willis and Mavis (Benson) Skadsem in Waterloo, Iowa.  In 1965 they moved to a farm in Black Hammer where she grew up.  She attended school in Houston, Minn., and was baptized and confirmed in Black Hammer.  Dee lived in Spring Grove, Rushford, and finally in Mabel, where she and her sister Joyce bought a home together. Richard “Dick” E. Cutler of Tarboro, N. C., died on February 23, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents Max, Enid, and Doris Cutler, sisters Arlene Thatcher and June Hanson.
