Arthur Thoreson obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Arthur “Richard” Thoreson, age 90 of Chatfield, Minn., passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Spring Valley Living in Spring Valley, Minn.

He was born September 1, 1934, the son of Arthur Ralph and Katherine Ida (Woxland) Thoreson in St Paul, Minn.

He graduated from St Charles High School in St Charles, Minn., and later went on to attend Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.

He married his bride, Mary Lou (Ressie) Thoreson on July 16, 1954, and together they shared 70 years, five children, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many wonderful memories.

Dad loved his faith, family, farming, and his retirement hobby farm.

Richard was survived by his wife Mary Lou, his five children: Steven (Terry) Thoreson, Debbie (Hugh) Fendry, David (Karen) Thoreson, Kathy (Kevin) Brettin, and Craig (Jean) Thoreson; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Ralph and Katherine Ida Thoreson (Woxland).

Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church in Rochester with the Reverend Greg Linscott officiating. Visitation was from 10 a.m., until the time of the service. Burial took place in Grandview Memorial Cemetery, Rochester.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or Semcac (Meals on Wheels).
