Sevy was born on July 18, 1928, in Granger, Minn., the son of Anthony and Leona (Linderman) Severson. He grew up in Preston, Minn., and married his high school sweetheart, Marion Barnes. When he retired from civilian work, he and Marion moved to Mesa, Ariz., for over 30 years before moving to Iowa City in 2021. Sevy and Marion marked their 75th anniversary on December 31, 2023.
Sevy enjoyed golf, poker and other card games, and racquetball. He had a flower and vegetable garden wherever he lived. He was in a barbershop quartet for many years and loved music. He especially appreciated the music therapist from St. Croix Hospice who visited while he was at Solon to play guitar and sing with him.
Sevy is survived by his wife Marion, daughters Susan (Tim) Fuchtman of Iowa City, Iowa, and Gigi (Doug) Cole of Gillette, Wyo.; eight grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
