Anita K. Monsoor

Anita K. Monsoor, age 96, of St. Paul, Minn., died Monday, May 10, 2021, at the English Rose Suites in Edina, Minn.

Anita Kathleen Semmen was born January 25, 1925 in La Crosse, Wis., to Alfred and Clara (Ferden) Semmen. She attended Filmore county country schools and graduated as valedictorian of Peterson High School in Peterson in 1942. Anita received her nursing degree from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wis.  Anita spent six months as a Naval Cadet nurse at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, Calif., prior to beginning her R.N. career at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis. Anita loved dancing and met the love of her life, Raymond Monsoor, at the Avalon Ballroom in La Crosse. They were united in marriage on November 15, 1950. In 1967, Raymond and Anita moved to Austin where Anita began working at St. Olaf Hospital, retiring in 1993. Raymond passed away August 8, 2015. They were married 64 years. Anita enjoyed geography, traveling, camping, casinos and following her granddaughter’s Arabian horse shows. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and culture.

Anita is survived by her threechildren: Bill (Cathy) Monsoor of Plymouth, Becky Cassidy of St. Paul, and Raymond Jr of Austin; four grandchildren: John (Martina) Cassidy, Megan (Karl) Cassidy, Katie Monsoor and Joseph Monsoor; four great-grandchildren: Ciana, Joseph, Edward and Quinn;  five siblings: Betty Hoiland, Solvig Scroggins, William (Doreen) Semmen, Peggy Lea, and Charlie Semmen.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

There will be a funeral service for Anita at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Hoff Funeral Home-Rushford, with the Reverend Thomas Melvin officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minn., at a later date.
