Alona J. Schmidt

April 25, 2024 by Fillmore County Journal

Alona Schmidt obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Alona J Schmidt was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She met her heavenly father on April 23, 2024, at the age of 80.

Alona was born to Orville and Elna Rask on September 1, 1943, in Caledonia, Minn. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Laurence “Larry” Schmidt, at Wilmington Lutheran Church on December 12, 1969. Together they had four children; Michelle, Darrin, Allison and Kevin. Alona was known for her amazing skills in the kitchen (specifically her peanut butter cookies and banana bread). She had the blessing of a green thumb, with bright, beautiful flowers always blooming for onlookers to enjoy. Alona loved and excelled at sewing, being the one everyone went to for any rip, hem, or patch that was needed. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially grandchildren. Her home was where all the kids would gather after school. Every child, no matter the relation, knew they were always welcomed at Grandma Schmidt’s with a smile on her face and a drawer full of snacks.

Alona is survived by her four children: Michelle (Bob) Scanlan, Darrin (Tracey) Schmidt, Allison (Cory) Fisher, and Kevin (Joannie) Schmidt; 11 grandchildren: Casey, Jenna and Cory; Tyanna and Levi; Mickayla (Caleb), Ethan, Tanner and Kaydence; and Kristen and Mitchell; three brothers and a sister: Orvis (Linda) Rask, Bonnie (Jim) Felten, Robert (Cindy) Rask, and Ken (Diana) Rask; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Larry; her parents Orville and Elna Rask, and her father and mother-in-law Fredrich and Erma Schmidt.

Per Alona’s wishes, a private family service will be held at Wilmington Lutheran Church, with Pastor Steven Meyer officiating, with a burial to follow.

Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, Caledonia Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
