Alois Anthony Spalla

July 6, 2021 by Fillmore County Journal

Alois Spalla obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Alois Anthony Spalla, age 66, entered into eternal rest at his home on June 30, 2021, in rural Fountain, Minn.  A private service was held for the family with Fr. McGrath.  A celebration of life is being planned for August 8, 2021, at the Fountain Community Center from noon to 3 p.m.

Al was born August 8, 1954, in Cresco, Iowa.  He was farming for as long as he could remember. He married the love of his life, Carol Spalla (Riha) on June 9, 1979. Together they raised three children.

Al worked as a dairy farmer for 12 years in Iowa, before moving to Fountain to raise beef cattle.  He loved his time on the tractor and raising his eclectic herd of cattle.

Al enjoyed life. He was always quick with a joke and loved to give people a hard time.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He enjoyed many of his neighbors. Al was quick to help someone out when they were in need.  He was known for his great breakfasts. He enjoyed many spur of the moment adventures, including trips to a working ranch in Wyoming with friends, traveling to Maine, a summer-long trip to Alaska, and even wintering in Arizona with Carol for a few winters.

Al is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Carol; three children: Melissa (Bradley) Milbrath from Lakefield, Minn., and stepdaughters Jennifer (Craig) Kozar from Hugo, Minn., and Karla Puffer from Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren Thor and Annabelle Melbye, Carter and Eleanor Milbrath; inlaws Frank and JoMarie Riha, Rosemary and Ron Hackman, Betty and John Foreman, Gene Riha, Connie and Al Muhlenbruck, and Lori and Wade Fisher; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Al was preceded in death by his inlaws who treated him like a son, Edward and Agnes Riha; brother Calvin Spalla and nephew Steven.

Online condolences are welcome at rileyfuneralhomes.com.
