Allan J. Dybvik, age 77, of rural Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday, November 18, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

Allan was born January 19, 1940, in Cresco, Iowa.  He graduated from the Cresco High School and then served in the United States Air Force with the Military Police K-9 unit.  After returning from the Air Force, he married Carol Rommes at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rochester.  They moved a few times before settling north of Decorah, where they eventually built three houses and have resided there since.  He worked for six years for Wonder Bread and 19 years for UPS.  He was a member of the St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and raising Springer Spaniels.

Allan is survived by his wife Carol; a son Jeff (Julie) of Roland, Iowa; three granddaughters: Jeanette, Cecilia, and Victoria; two sisters, Marlene Dolce of Denver, Colo., and Laurene Rodgers of Houston, Minn.; and his dog Lady.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven; and a brother, Alvin Dybvik, Jr.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Mabel, with Father Matt Fasnacht officiating.  Burial will be in the Russell Cemetery in rural Decorah.   Visitation will be 9–11 a.m. Tuesday prior to services at the church. The rosary will be recited at 10 a.m.  The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
