Abbreviated Caledonia School Board Meeting Minutes May 20, 2024

The Board of Education of Independent School District No. 299, Caledonia, Minnesota, met in a regular school board meeting in the elementary building room #162. The meeting was called to order by Chair Mike Peterson at 6:00 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. The school board members present were Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Melissa Marschall, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, Spencer Yohe and student school board representative Addison Fruechte. Also, present were Craig Ihrke, Nathan Boler, Susan Link, Gretchen Juan, John Wahlstrom, Barb Meyer, Karen Schiltz, Kaitlin Longhauser, Frederick Beseler, and Matt Stemper.
Moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Derek Adamson to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Derek Adamson, seconded by Daniel Small to adopt the resolution accepting donations. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Moved by Spencer Yohe, seconded by Mike Peterson to approve the following consent agenda items: approval of the April 15, 2024, regular school board minutes; approval of the electronic transfers and bills due and payable amounting to $2,418,014.45 along with electronic transfers from MSDLAF to Merchants Bank in the amount of $900,000.00; authorize the bidding of bread, dairy and petroleum products for the 2024-2025 school year; accept the resignation of Tricia Babinski as the One Ac Play Advisor at the end of the 2023-2024 school year with thanks for her past five years of dedication in this position; accept the resignation of Kerrigan Hansen as special educational paraprofessional effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year with thanks for her past year of service to our school district; accept the resignation of Lynn Stefanidis as special educational paraprofessional effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year with thanks for her past two years of service to our school district; accept the resignation of Karen Krzebietke as a part-time nutrition assistant effective May 8, 2024, with thanks for her past year in this position; ratify the hiring of Paul Nickelotti as a full-time MSHS Math teacher beginning the 2024-2025 school year at BA/1 years at $47,739.00; ratify the hiring of Jessika Montoya as a full-time CAPS Care teacher beginning June 3, 2024, at III/5 years at $16.84 per hour; ratify the hiring of Kiley Meyer as a casual SAC summer employee at $13.50 per hour; approval of the COPS Grant Request for Proposal for the Distributed Antenna System and approval of early dismissals to accommodate for Read Act trainings for staff at 12:30 p.m. on October 16, 2024, and November 26, 2024. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Member Mike Peterson introduced the following resolution discontinuing and reducing educational programs and positions and moved its adoption. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Daniel Small. Upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Melissa Marschall, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, and Spencer Yohe. The following voted against: None. Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. Member Daniel Small introduced the resolution relating to the termination and nonrenewal of the teaching contract for, Stephanie Fingerson, a probationary teacher and moved its adoption. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Derek Adamson. Upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Melissa Marschall, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, and Spencer Yohe. The following voted against: None. Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. Member Derek Adamson introduced the resolution relating to the termination and nonrenewal of the teaching contract for Michael Stefanidis a probationary teacher and moved its adoption. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Leigh King. Upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Melissa Marschall, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, and Spencer Yohe. The following voted against: None. Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. Member Mike Peterson introduced the resolution proposing to place Tessa Larson on unrequested leave of absence and moved its adoption. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Daniel Small. Upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Melissa Marschall, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, and Spencer Yohe. The following voted against: None. Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. Moved by Spencer Yohe, second by Derek Adamson to ratify the part-time teacher contract for Tessa Larson at 0.8284 FTE beginning the 2024-2025 school year. Motion carried by a unanimous vote. Member Spencer Yohe introduced the 2024-2025 resolution for membership in the Minnesota State High School League and moved its adoption. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Daniel Small. Upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Derek Adamson, Tim Gunn, Leigh King, Melissa Marschall, Mike Peterson, Daniel Small, and Spencer Yohe. The following voted against: None. Whereupon, the Board of Chairperson declared the resolution duly passed and adopted this 20th day of May, 2024, at a regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 299, Caledonia, Minnesota. Moved by Mike Peterson, seconded by Daniel Small to adjourn the meeting at 7:45 p.m. Motion carried by a unanimous vote.
