Phyllis April Bangs, 77, of Mabel, Minnesota, died Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Green Lea Senior Living in Mabel.
Phyllis was born April 4, 1949, in DeLand, Florida, to Ralph and Shirley (Holzer) Moyer. She graduated from the DeLand High School. On August 20, 1969, she married Larry Dean Bangs at the Henrytown Lutheran Church in rural Harmony, Minnesota. They lived in Mabel, Rochester, Stewartville and Utica before moving back to the Lanesboro area in 1980. Larry was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Phyllis enjoyed reading, watching television and taking trips to the casino.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter Sheila Melbostad (Jacob Ernst) of Mabel, two grandchildren, Nick (Clarissa) Spande and Megan (Talon) Peterson, both of Mabel; two great-grandchildren, Lillian and Camdyn; two sisters, Jean Higgenbotham and Patricia (Robert) Diehlmann; two sisters-in-law, Janice (Wally) Beuch and Linda Benson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, her son Shad Bangs, her parents Ralph and Shirley, sister-in-law Julie Bangs, and three brothers-in-law: Henry Higgenbotham, Maloy Bangs, Jr. and Jerome Bangs.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel. Burial will be at a later date in the Henrytown Lutheran Cemetery.
