Rushford-Peterson’s Carson Johnson goes high for a catch in front of Chatfield’s Jesse Swartzentruber. Johnson caught three for 148 and a touchdown, and Creighton Hoiness was 6-of-6 for 164 yards and three total scores (two passing), as R-P improved to 4-1 with a 28-14 win.

Senior quarterback Creighton Hoiness hit senior flanker Carson Johnson three times in the game. All three went for big yards and resulted in points indirectly or directly, as R-P (2-1, 3-1) took down Chatfield (2-1, 3-1) in a key Southeast-Yellow week five contest. The four biggest offensive plays, 40 yards or more, were all made by the Trojans. In the first quarter, Hoiness hit Johnson for a 40-yard reception to the Gopher 10. A few plays later, Hoiness threw a 7-yard TD pass to Jaxon Johnson for a 6-0 Trojan lead. In the second quarter, Hoiness hit Johnson on a 42-yard pass play to the Gopher 10 again. Owen Lange then got in from 7-yards out for a 12-0 lead, which stood at the half. Hoiness to Johnson early in the second half really put the Trojans in the charge. On the second play, they connected on a 68-yard score. C-Johnson ran the conversion in for a 20-0 lead. Chatfield moved the ball, predominately between the 20s. They ended the game with 20 first downs to the Trojans’ nine. In fact, R-P had just three second half first downs period (two came on long scoring plays). But Chatfield also began the game going 0-for-4 on fourth down conversions. Six of their first seven drives ended in Trojan territory including as deep as the R-P 15 and R-P 18. With 2:38 left in the third quarter, Hoiness iced the game with a 43-yard scrambling touchdown run. C-Johnson’s conversion run made it 28-0. Chatfield scored twice in the fourth to make the final score 28-14. C-Johnson (3-148, TD receiving; 8-40, two conversions rushing) and Hoiness (6 of 6, 164 yards, 2 TDs passing; 5-42, TD rushing) led the way. Lange (17-70, TD rushing) also churned out yards between the tackles. Jesse Peterson (fumble recovery, sack, two tackles for loss) and Ayden Garrett (to interceptions) were key on defense. For Chatfield, Hunter Polikowsky (25-115 rushing; 2-32 receiving) worked hard to top 100 yards on the ground. Quarterbacks Carter Ask (10 of 25, 79 yards, TD, 2 INTs passing) and Nolan Happel (3 of 7, 46 yards passing; 12-29, TD rushing) helped. Ask hit Brooks Lea (3-39, TD receiving) on Chatfield’s longest play, a broken-coverage 24-yard TD pass. Caledonia (5-0, 5-0) now leads the South-East Yellow over second place R-P (3-1, 4-1), Chatfield (2-2, 3-2), D-E (2-2, 3-2), Lourdes (2-2, 2-3), Triton (1-3, 2-3), and St. Charles (0-5, 0-5).
